The Process

How we got here

The proposed plan was developed over nearly a year of hearing community input and outreach.

At Thief River Public Schools, we are grateful for the support our local community shows for our mission to help students succeed. So when we began to explore solutions to our district’s financial challenges, we turned to our community for input. For over a year, the Long Term Planning Advisory Committee (LTPAC) has worked to gather feedback from parents, staff, students, local leaders and district residents on solutions that address our challenges and strengthen opportunities for students.

The Steps We’ve Taken

2022

Our district formed a Long Term Planning Advisory Committee (LTPAC) to identify and recommend solutions to address budget challenges and protect the financial health of the district.

The LTPAC held over a dozen open meetings, with district residents, teachers, administrators, and local leaders offering feedback on options to solve the district’s financial challenges.

May 2023

The district launched a community-wide online survey to gather input on our district’s challenges and options for potential voter-approved investments. The LTPAC used the survey’s results to develop recommendations for new voter-approved investments.

June 2023

The school board considered the recommendations of the LTPAC at its meeting on June 26.

July 2023

On July 24, the board formally approved a plan to hold a referendum for the three ballot questions during the November 7 election.
