Planning For Our Prowlers

Thief River Falls Schools Referendum 2023

Finding solutions to help our students succeed

At Thief River Falls Public Schools, we’re focused on giving every student the tools they need to succeed in the classroom and after graduation. Investments in educational programs, staffing and technology are critical to these goals.

But today, our district faces significant financial challenges that threaten our legacy of student success. In response to inadequate state funding from the state, we have cut nearly $2.7 million from the budget over the last six years. Despite constant cost reductions, we face a $2.4 million deficit by the 2025-2026 school year without a new revenue source.

Without new revenue, the school board will need to make further cuts to operations, which could include staff reductions, larger class sizes and fewer learning and extracurricular programs for students.

To protect the resources that students depend on, Thief River Falls Public Schools is presenting voters with three ballot questions during the election on Tuesday, November 7. If approved, they would authorize new levies to help stabilize our district’s budget, recruit and retain talented staff, protect class sizes, and create new learning opportunities for students.
